Where do you think it will end?

Where do you think it will end?

There's a town out west they call Baker
Over in Nevada's White Pine
A high desert home in Snake Valley
Folks seem to like it just fine

But Baker's only part of the picture
There's a community out on the land.
With Garrison and Eskdale counted
There's people and nature, not just sand.

Up the hill you find Great Basin Park
Once, just the old Lehman cave.
With Wheeler Peak in the background
It's a national treasure to save!

Our story is one of traditions
Of neighbors that live and let live.
We don't always love one another
But sure try to forget and forgive.

Of late, water is the big issue
There's a city with unquenchable thirst.
Las Vegas would take our groundwater
Leaving only dust that's been cursed.

They say that more people have jobs
In one Vegas casino alone,
Than all of the hardworking people
That call this valley their own.

It's not that most people of "The Meadows"
Are bent on their own selfish needs
What drives this ruthless demand
Is largely developers' greed.

While politicians know where the votes are
The system seems out of control.
If our leaders really had vision
They'd begin to consider the whole

Should vast cities be built in the desert,
Beyond all reasonable resources?
When is enough, really enough?
It's past time for such discourses.

With might on the side of the wealthy
Our hope is tied to the law
The audacity of taking and taking
Is enough to stick in your craw.

So just ask yourself one question
Where to you think it will end?
With more urban sprawl and another golf course,
Or respect for the future of the land?
